Animated Video explaining liver gene therapy with AAV

This video presents and explains a new therapy to treat genetic liver diseases, which until now could only be treated by a drastic and invasive liver transplantation. This new concept is gene therapy using an AAV (Adeno Associated Virus). For this treatment, a deactivated virus is used to introduce the good gene into the cells via a single infusion. At the end of the video, Dr. D'Antiga from Papa Giovani XXIII hospital, Bergamo (Italy) explains he has treated 3 patients with this non-invasive method currently being tested on Crigler-Najjar patients in the European project CureCN. He also mentions that this technique could be applied to other genetic liver diseases.
