ICGEB

Established in 1983 within the UN system, the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology – ICGEB – is an intergovernmental organisation comprising 66 Member States and an interactive network of internationally recognized scientists and state-of-the-art laboratories in Trieste, New Delhi and Cape Town. The Centre has the mandate of fostering research, capacity building and technology transfer in Life Sciences, with the ultimate purpose of promoting sustainable global development.

The ICGEB Mouse Molecular Genetics group in Trieste played a fundamental role in developing the pre-clinical model for the treatment of the Crigler-Najjar Syndrome. The Group conducts AVV-gene therapy experiments in a murine model of the disease, developed by the same laboratory, focusing on juvenile transduction and re-administration of the therapeutic vector, and in the analysis and validation of liver proliferation markers.
